BENGAL GALLERY

Bengal Gallery - Display area - 227.96 sq m(2453 sq ft)

This gallery on the first floor adjoining the Fountain Court is reserved for exhibitions of the Govt. of West Bengal. This was part of an understanding made with the Govt. of West Bengal, which had gifted the land for construction to the Ministry of External Affairs, on which the Centre was built. It was hoped that the gallery in the Rabindranath Tagore Centre would showcase much of the art treasures of West Bengal not yet displayed properly so far, for lack of space. After the inaugural exhibition 'Bengal Masters', the Bengal Gallery is scheduled to hold exhibitions throughout the year displaying rare art treasures from the state government collections, which would be open to the public. In December 2008 a month long Jamini Roy exhibition displaying fifty paintings of the master was inaugurated .
